Horse Training

At Black Hawk Equine, we believe that loud people make quiet horses. Our training philosophy emphasizes calm, clear communication and a gentle, consistent approach that fosters trust and respect. We are dedicated to fully preparing horses for their future endeavors, ensuring that each step of the training process is tailored to meet the individual needs of the horse. Whether starting a colt, addressing behavioral challenges, or preparing for trail riding or competition, we focus on creating a solid foundation that supports long-term success and helps horses thrive in any environment.

We are fully insured, ensuring that all training sessions are conducted safely and professionally at your facility.

Our training services include:

  • Colt Starting: We take a gentle, step-by-step approach to starting young horses, ensuring they build confidence and a solid foundation. Proper facility requirements for this service include a round pen, a fenced arena or riding space, and a dedicated grooming/tack area. Colt starting requires a total of 6 weeks (3 packages).

  • Fitness Maintenance Rides: Keep your horse in peak condition with regular fitness rides that focus on strength, stamina, and overall health.

  • Specialized Training: Address specific goals or challenges, including preparing your horse for specific disciplines, events, or tasks.

  • Problem Solving: We help horses overcome issues such as fear, resistance, or anxiety, using positive reinforcement and effective techniques.

  • Ground Training & Behavior Handling: Improve your horse’s ground manners, including leading, lunging, and desensitization, while addressing any behavioral issues like pulling, kicking, or general handling problems.

Patience

Horses learn at their own pace, and it's important to be patient throughout the process. Rushing or pushing a horse too quickly can lead to confusion, fear, or behavioral issues. Patience allows the horse to build a solid foundation without stress.
